WHAT IS ASTIGMATISM?

Astigmatism is a frequent refractive error of the eye where the surface of the cornea is not evenly rounded in all directions. It is often combined with nearsightedness or farsightedness. Patients suffering from astigmatism have distorted (deformed, double), and blurred vision.

In most cases, this refractive error is congenital and inherited, but it can also result from injury, illness or eye surgery. Astigmatism causes difficulties in reading and distinguishing digits, eyestrain and headaches are also an unpleasant symptom.

HOW TO GET RID OF ASTIGMATISM

Astigmatism can be corrected by eyeglasses or contact lenses with cylindrical diopters called cylinders. Astigmatism can be corrected in combination with the diopters necessary for the correction of the fundamental error, namely myopia or hyperopia, but often not entirely due to their poorer tolerability in glasses (especially in the case of higher and asymmetric astigmatism).  The type of surgery depends on the degree and type of astigmatism, as well as anatomical possibilities of the corneas. The exact method to resolve this eye disorder is determined by the doctor after a thorough examination.

Laser eye surgery is the most appropriate for a life free of astigmatism. The most common method we use for the correction of astigmatism is the Z-LASIK method, to fix the irregular curvature of the surface of the cornea.
  • the surgery is performed under local anaesthesia
  • it is painless
  • it takes about 30 minutes
  • does not require hospitalization
  • fast recovery
  • good vision already a few hours after the surgery.

WHO IS THE SURGERY SUITABLE FOR

The condition for getting the laser surgery of astigmatism is at least 18 years of age and a stabilized eye error for at least one year.
